An assignment I did for extra credit in my Photo J class.
1: Letter to next year students:
Photojournalism is a good class to take to open up your creativity. This class lets you get creative with nearly every project. You get to take your own photos, edit them yourself, and the most creative is working with photoshop. The best example of this would be the Silhouette Photoshop assignment. This project is where you take a photo of yourself from the side, take it into photoshop to create a white background and make your entire body black. Inside the back canvas of your body you get to put in any pictures that represents you. This project not only helps you understand the cutout feature on photoshop, but you get to think about what really does represent you and you figure out how to display it in small pictures or logos.
My favorite thing about this class was actually going out and taking pictures. You have control over what kind of pictures you want, depending on the assignment. The experience of going out and actually taking photos is a little stressful, but extremely fun after you get used to it. The more pictures you take, the easier it gets. Plus after a shoot, I never wanted to quit shooting.
My least favorite thing about this class is the sports assignment. I’m not much of a sports person, so it was a little hard to adapt to taking pictures of something I barely knew anything about. After you get used to it though, it gets easier. If you aren’t good at sports either, this is no reason to not join the class. The sports assignment is just a small project you only have to do once.
